"Following close upon an accident to the Mill's boys, which we recorded in last issue we now have to report a terrible fatality which happened on Tuesday night to a man named Henry Hales, who resides in the vicibity of Bethungra. Hales was an uncle to the boys Nill's, and father of a family of six children. We are unable to learn for certain what state the poor man was in, but it is said he came into Cootamundra for the purpose of attending his nephew's funeral and on the return journey, paused and fell asleep. The driver of the train (a goods from Albury) caught sight of Hales on the line too late to stop, but whistled loudly, the train however, passed over him, cutting off his head. The remains were brought to the local station, where an inquest was held on Wednesday, before Mr District Coroner Barnes and a respectable jury, of which Mr Furner was foreman. The jury viewed the body and heard evidence and brought in a verdict that the deceased met his death by the train passing over him. There is some talk of getting up a subscription for the affected widow and orphans."
